Falkirk Cairn.

On the 19th July, we attended the second commemoration service at Falkirk Cairn.
This Cairn was raised to commemorate, not the commanders of the Scots who died there, but the ordinary men and women.
The Plaque on the cairn is dedicated to the ordinary soldiers and all who fell with Wallace at the battle of Falkirk on the 22nd July 1298.
This cairn is quite unique in that respect.

Re: Falkirk Cairn.

Mairead, does the annual January commemoration still take place at the memorial?

And my second question - how many miles do you reckon Ken Schirra drives each year? The man seems to be everywhere.

EDIT - I just Googled Falkirk Cairn, looking for a suitable image of the cairn. And less than 20 hours after Mairead's post, it is already #5 of some 68,500 results. vBSEO seems to be working well, doesn't it?

Re: Falkirk Cairn.

Na Fir Dileas (The Loyal Men) gathered at the Falkirk Cairn.

This image was shamelessly nicked from Welcome to NA FIR DILEAS (The Loyal Men)

And that is oor Mairead, front and center, with another young lady. The gentleman standing immediately behind and just right of the young lass is the Chief of Na Fir Dileas.

Mairead, would that be Fishy, fourth from left? And maybe that is Marti, second from right? I've tried to blow the image up, to see it better, but the resolution goes in the bin. Terry has either shorn his hair or has it tied back. Seeing images like this make me 'homesick', indeed.

Re: Falkirk Cairn.

Oh, yes, I meant to say Mairead's initial post is now number 3 in the Google SERP for the term 'Falkirk Cairn'.

Re: Falkirk Cairn.

Thanks for posting that on here. I didn't nkow how to do that.
From L-R in the picture, with a ? at those I don't know.

A Strathleven Artisan - Kevin Wilson-Fish-Bob-Chris- Me -Wee Linsey-Eddie at the back-Colin-John-?-Grant and Paul.

Kevin Wilson is formerly of Schiltrumm, now of Whiterose and a member of NFD. Chris is our piper, Wee Linsey is Grant's daughter, and I made her a wee outfit with some material left over from mine. She asked me if she was a member of NFD now and when I said yes, she said "Ooo Good, That means I can come to all the meetings now." LOL
She was laying flowers at the cairn that day on behalf of snother group of people and did it so well.
Yep, Catch them young.
