Sheriffmuir 2008

The Na Fir Dileas commemoration of the battle of Sheriffmuir took place on Saturday 15th November.
The lads did a five mile march from Greenloaning and fortunately, the rain stayed away.
A service was held at the McCrae monument and around 140 were gathered for this service.
Afterwards, a Jacobite Ball was held at the Royal Hotel, Bridge of Allan. The gentlemen were all in full highland dress and the ladies in ball gowns and tiaras. The hotel did us proud with excellent food and service and a thoroughly good evening was had by all.

And here's an image of mairead and her Dave, dressed to the nines -

It sounds like a wonderful evening. I just would never have cleaned up well enough to pass muster for admission.

Oh I'm sure you would have scrubbed up well too.
It was the grandest Sheriffmuir event we have ever put on and well worth all the arranging. Maybe you'll get over for the next one. We'd love to have you there.

Please do flag me up when other images become available. I saw some on the Circle of Gentlemen site and the exterior image of the Royal Hotel immediately made me 'homesick'.

What a great picture, you both look wonderful!

It must have been a great weekend for Scottish celebrations around the world. My wife and I went to the St. Andrew's Society Dinner Dance Saturday night and I participated in the Kirkin' O' the Tartans at our church on Sunday. The Scots were out in force this past weekend.

Re: Sheriffmuir 2008

It certainly surpassed any previous Sheriffmuir event. At the march there was the biggest turnout ever and the flags were up in number too. The evening event was brilliant and service at the Royal was top class. I think we'll be back there next year.

PS Yes, Dave was wearing the Lamont. He is a Lamont descendent though English by birth and he loves to wear his kilt..

Mike, start putting the pennies away for your airfare for next year. It will be memorable for you.

Re: Sheriffmuir 2008

If I can just convince Maitland he needs to take me to raise, I'll buy a one-way ticket and be there, Johnny-on-the-spot!

Maitland, it would only be one more mouth to feed. <hoping he's forgotten the times we've broken bread together!>

I remember the meagre portions that I ate during the time we broke bread together and the insastiable appetite that you had. I remember Mrs Maitland having to move her plate to one side as you were eyeing her meal up. Personally I was embarrassed
