Kelly Genealogy

Interested in genealogy surrounding my family who originate from Ireland C1810.

John Kelly left Ireland (Area of Ireland unknown) between 1810 and 1838. John was a Master Weaver and lived in the Parkhead Area of Glasgow.

In 1838 John Married a Catherine Craig they lived at 81 Westmuir Street, Parkhead, Glasgow in 1841 (1841 Scottish Census). In 1841/42 John had an affair with a Protestant girl by the name of Ann Trainer (b C1821 Savoy Street, Glasgow) resulting in the birth of Thomas Kelly in 1842 in Moffats Land, Parkhead, Glasgow.

Thomas was eventually taken into the Kelly's household where he took on the name Kelly from his father. He was initially known as Thomas Trainer.

Between 1851 and 1855 John Kelly dies. Their is no trace of any death certificate and the only way we know that he has died is from the 1861 Scottish Census when his wife Catherine is shown as a Widow.

Johns son Thomas Kelly (My GG Grandfather) met up with a wee girl in 1861 called Elizabeth Hyslop from Stoneykirk, Wigtownshire, Scotland. They had a child in 1861 out of wedlock by the name of Margaret Kelly Hyslop. Thomas and Elizabeth went on to have around 14 children before they eventually married in 1873.

One of these children was David Kelly who was born in 1882. David married Catherine Boyle who gave birth to my Grandfather Maitland Kelly in 1912.

Maitland Kelly married Margaret Stewart Blake in 1935 resulting in the birth of my father David Kelly in 1944.

This is a basic run down of my immediate family. Time permitting I will edit this post to add more information and will add other family connections on another Thread.

This is what this genealogy forum is here to do and that is to share information on family that may be of a help to others, so if I can encourage you all to add your family's ancestral details to this forum we will see just how far it can take us.
