Control of infection might be helped if Doctors and consultants went back to wearing their white coats or scrubs and if nursing staff did not travel to work in their uniforms. I think the entire cleanliness in hospitals went down the plug when the Cleaning went out to contractors. Prior to that, each ward had it's own cleaners who knew exactly what was needed, and had the time to do it. Now many contract cleaners have only so much time to spend on each ward. I also think there is too much visitor access. People can troup in and out of many hospitals at any time and people do carry germs.

Forgot to mention that also, it was customary when I trained, that after and surgical procedure, that the patient was washed by nurses once the anaesthesia had worn off and the patient was conscious. That no longer happens now either, in many hospitals.
