| Re: Saltire Banned They can hardly allow the Saltire to fly when they have banned the Tibeting Flag, that would smack of hypocrisy now wouldn't it. Just shows you where Scotland lies in the minds of some. I wonder if the UK Government will be making representation to the Chinese Government over this. It may be in their best interest to do so. | Re: Saltire Banned Me neither. I would love to see just one of our Scottish athletes stand up and be counted, but not much hope of that happening in these days when personal glory is everything. A real Scottish hero, to my mind, would be someone who would refuse to compete under the union flag. Now that would be a HERO. Doubt if the Brit Government will make any comment at all to the Chinese. I take the point abuot the Tibetan flag though.

| Re: Saltire Banned I would just like to see one of the athletes refuse to stand under the brit Flag if and when they won a medal. People tend to forget that Britain is not a country and therefore the Union Flag is not the Flag of a country, it is a Political Flag and should be regarded as such. If the athletes feel they have no choice to compete as british they must at least insist on standing under the flag of their own Nation whether it be Scottish English or Welsh. You have to remember that the Welsh are not even represented on The Union Flag. At least the Saltire is there albeit under the Flag of St George. M... |

Which is why I commented about one of Maitland's pictures of Eilean Donan Castle showing a Saltire flying. It's not uncommon to see the U.S. flag flying everywhere over here, but the Saltire gets to be a welcome sight when one does see it. That's a shame. I remember being in Alloa one day and as we were walking through a parking lot, a small truck was sitting there with two flag sitckers on the rear bumper - one was a Saltire and one was a Jacobite Standard. And it was sad to note the two people I was with were discussing who the truck owner might be.

| Re: Saltire Banned The saltire is making more of an appearance now. However so is the Union Flag. On my way back from The Isle of Lewis I noted a couple of houses flying the Union Flag. I would suggest that some brits are now somewhat concerned at the loss of their beloved Union that they feel the need to show some sort of support. These people obviously wish to keep Scotland subservient for another 301 years. Mike you are entirely correct there are far too many people here in Scotland who still believe the lies that they have been told. If you are to say to them that britain is not a nation they look at you as if you have two heads. It is one of the biggest lies ever told to the people of Scotland M... |

Is there are article here on Clan Alba that explains the different Scottish Flags (The Saltire, The Rampant Lion, The Jacobite Flag, etc) for those of us in the states and the appropriate rules for flying them? Slainte Cheers Jamie

| Re: Saltire Banned The rule is to fly them. I was in touch with Mairead earlier and admitted to her that I do not own a U.S. flag. However, the very first thing you will see upon entering my home is a Saltire.
