Mags, it sounds as if you better get up early and be prepared to slip and slide.

We did get freezing rain early this morning, but nothing like the week of Christmas. The salt trucks appear to have been out early, the roads in Castleton were fine this morning. Thank goodness!! Now if we could just get the weather to warm up again. Have I mentioned how much I hate the cold!!!

Hi Mags! We got lucky too, it missed us almost entirely. The driveway had a film of ice on it, last evening, but that was as bad as it got.

I'm thinking Brittany has a birthday coming up, yes? Give her my best birthday wishes. And remember to tell her I said congratulations. ;)
Oh, but let me tell you that I love you and I think about you all the time. Caledonia, you're calling me and now I'm going home.

Weather here is hovering around 2 degrees. It is getting a little milder with heavy winds forecast for Saturday night into Sunday. I think the North of Scotland is looking at winds around 75 - 80 miles an hour and then moving South towards the Central belt.

I had intended to get out for a good walk on Sunday to Cromlet (Mike, Cromlet is actually 11 feet higher than Dumyat) but I will have to see how the weather pans out.

Another couple of hours and I am off to pick up Mrs Maitland from work and then off for Lunch within view of Stirling Castle and The Wallace Monument. It is a hard life but some of us have to cope with it !!

Well, we don't have wind, but our forecast is not pretty. It is currently 19° / -7°, but is expected to warm up near 32° / 0° later today. OK, people from the snow belt, what happens in the winter when the temperature climbs?

Quote

... Winter Weather Advisory in effect from midnight tonight to
7 PM EST Saturday...

The National Weather Service in Indianapolis has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for snow mixed with sleet... which is in effect from midnight tonight to 7 PM EST Saturday.

A low pressure system will move from the Southern Plains to the Ohio River from tonight to Saturday morning. This is expected to bring around 3 to 5 inches of snow across northwestern central Indiana... possibly mixing with sleet at times. The chances for sleet are mainly overnight on Friday and precipitation is expected to be all snow by around 7 am Saturday.

A Winter Weather Advisory means that periods of snow or sleet will cause travel difficulties. Be prepared for slippery roads and limited visibilities... and use caution while driving.

The only bright side to any of this is that we're only meant to get 4 inches of snow with 1/4 inch to 1/2 inch of ice.

Are you too tight-fisted to take your good lady to dine within view of Sheriffmuir then? ;)

Tight Fisted !! As if. Mrs Maitland asked "do you want to meet me for lunch" This means that she asked, she pays. It is therefore her who is too tight fisted to take her husband to lunch within view of the Sheriffmuir

Anyway, I have just booked a table for four at the Sheriffmuir for Friday 20th February to celebrate (or in his view commiserate) my Fathers 65th Birthday. I will of course let you know (in great detail ;)) how it was :raz: (back at ye)

Alexander has even starting calling him Dave instead of Grandpa in a bid to turn back the years (I kid you not !!)

Here you go Maitland. Not this is winter weather for you -

It's currently 6° /-14°, with a windchill of -4° / -20°. Before morning, we're forecast to get to -1° / -18°. Windchill temperatures for tonight are expected to get as low as -19° / -28°.

Same forecast for tomorrow.

Thursday, things get a bit cooler. We have a forecast high of only 2° / -17° with temperatures dropping to -12° / -24° that night. Anticipated windchill numbers? -25° / -31°. Care to come over and take a walk in those kinds of temperatures?

Of course we're also forecast to get 2-4 inches of snow tomorrow, as well. We're yet to see any of the snow the National Weather Service has said we would see, so I'm hoping we get another miss. I think if I forecast a high temperature of 72°, there will come a day when I am absolutely correct. So maybe we'll actually get 2-4 inches of snow sometime or another.
Oh, but let me tell you that I love you and I think about you all the time. Caledonia, you're calling me and now I'm going home.

Ach that's nothing. I made comments to Mrs Maitland last night about Leprechauns and the windchill factor dropped to -40

We got about 3 inches of snow yesterday and this morning it is currently -12° / -24°, with a windchill of -25° / -32°.

It is supposed to 'warm up' to -1° / -18° later in the day, however.

It made an attempt to snow here last night but amounted to nothing. Earlier on it had been raining with the rain turning to ice the moment it hit the ground. Temperatures are forecast at around 10C/50F today. At this rate we may just miss the snow completely this winter.

Last year I think we had 2 days of snow and that was it. Thank goodness for global warming, I hope you Americans keep it up ;)

Maitland, I am glad you are not in the same misery we are over here.

Woke up this morning to 5 F/-15 C, and our high today is forecast to reach 18 F/-7 C. I realise that in comparison to some of the folk further north that sounds almost balmy, but consider the fact that geographically speaking we are about even with the Mediteranian.

-21° / -29° this morning. Thankfully, there is no wind.

I'm so ready for Spring to get here.

It has been well above freezing here today but the rain has started in earnest. We are forecast a wee bit of a storm tomorrow night into Sunday morning with winds as high as 90 miles per hour with possible blizzards.

Lets see if it amounts to much.

I suspect we'll pay heavily for today's weather. It's currently 43° / 6° here.

Yes, that sound you hear is the snow melting. ;)

Just the normal, late January thaw.

We've been getting those for the past few years, just to get you longing for an early spring.

Around 6 inches of snow here at the minute with a wee bit of a wind picking up. Forecast heavy snow and drifting overnight. I even heard one forecast that stated higher ground could be looking at 1.5M (over 4 feet) of snow overnight

I would suggest at best we will wake up to about 10 inches of snow and that will upset the kids as they will still be at school.

A friend of mine told me that her kids were off school as they were closed because of severe weather. She is from the south of England and the closure was caused by less than 1 inch of snow that had already melted by 12 noon  At least her kids enjoyed the wee bit of snow they had.

Temperatures are slowly dropping to below freezing at the minute with the snow forecast to last until Wednesday and then a couple of clear days.

So much for the forecast. It didn't snow overnight and the temperatures have picked up. We now have a thaw on. However if you look at the headlines it tells us that the snow storm is still moving north.
