It has been a long time since I have posted, but I thought this subject might prove of amusement to the good folks here

Though Halloween isn't much of a big thing across the pond here in the states we enjoy this celebration quite a lot. My wife and I love Halloween and enjoy throwing parties and dressing up. I do not consider the kilt a costume but I find it a challenging proposal to intregrate a kilt into a costume while still being respectful to the kilt.

This year my lovely wife and I were Lady Macbeth and Macbeth from Shakespeare's "The Scottish Play". Now of course the real Macbeth lived far before the kilt developed but I tried my best to come up with a good Shakespearean era take on the character.

Here are a few pictures of us in full costume

By the by, my lovely wife wasn't shooting for any time of historical authenticity, she wanted her Lady Macbeth to be cool, sexy, and dangerous looking. I think she hit the mark splendidly! :)

More to come

In the process of making this costume I had to learn about the belted plaid and how to fold and wear one.

Needless to say it was an interesting process! My first attempt felt like I was "drowning in tartan".

With a lot of help from my friends over on xmarksthescot.com I figured it out

This is what my great kilt outfit looks minus the iron mongery and crown of skulls

I have learned that a bodkin is the correct instrument to pin one's plaid so I will use this pin in the future instead of the big fly plaid brooch.

If anyone was interested in what the leather jerkin looked like here is one from our SCD class Halloween party

The jerkin and my wife's dress came from Ravenswood Leather

Looks good, Jamie!

I hate to imagine how much you have invested in the weaponry. :wow:
Oh, but let me tell you that I love you and I think about you all the time. Caledonia, you're calling me and now I'm going home.

Mike,

Actually most of my pieces are functional replicas so they didn't cost that much at the time. As someone who likes costumes I would buy only those weapons that I saw had the a lot of versatility to go with the most outfits. Someday I need to get a Scottish baskethilt to finish my modest collection though.
