The terrible slaughter of Culloden and the even more terrible aftermath of the battle, did not completely kill off Jacobite loyalty to the Stewart Monarchy and there has always been many with Jacobite tendencies, right up till the present day although now it is more a matter of principle rather than of preference, but, in both these sympathies and sentiments there remains today, many loyal Stewart supporters across the world and wherever the Scots have settled, remembrance services still take place and the old songs of the Jacobites can be heard again.
At the site of the battle of Culloden, every year, people gather from home and abroad, to unite and pay tribute to the glorious dead whose names and place in Scotland's history should never be forgotten.
Nor should it be forgotten that among the Jacobite dead, lie many clansmen who fought and died on the government side, but it was not out of choice for many of them.

Over the centuries, Jacobitism did not die out and today, there are still many Jacobite groups around the country who do not acept the rule of the present ruling House, and still keep faith with the old values and the belief that the Stewart heirs should be on the throne.
Exactly which heir, however, is a source of great debate.
There are many foreigners with claims to the Stewart titles, but the heir who resides in Scotland would be the Duke of Buccleuch, a bloodline descendent through James, Duke of Monmouth oldest son of King Charles 2nd who married the heiress of Buccleuch and who was executed by his Uncle, James 1st.
It has never been proved that Monmouth's mother, Lucy Walters, was married to King Charles 2nd, as it is alleged that the marriage certificate was deliberately destroyed by King Charles on the instructions of his mother.
Irrespective, the Buccleuch line is a true bloodline from the Kings of Scotland and not a claim based on marriages from one family to another, from Sardinia to Bavaria.

I fear not hell, nor English strife,
For Scotland, I will give my life
For Scotland, I will give my life
